Fiber Optic Center Helps You

ACHIEVE YOUR
BEST SPLICE

Splice failures are due to breaks that often occur not right at the splice joint but nearby unless key steps are taken to avoid them.

Z

fiber preparation

The goal for fiber splice preparation is to cleave each fiber at 90° end face, with minimal lip, cracks, and hackle . The key to repeatable, robust splices is the clean and flat cleave and our proven recipe is for the highest quality splice follows the steps for clean fiber, clean cleave and true verification of the performance.

Z

fiber cleaning

Dirt, dust, and other contaminants on the fiber can interfere with the fusion process, resulting in poor splice loss and strength problems. Following the FOC specific Clean Splice process includes proper cleaning techniques for tools and fixtures that are an additional source of contaminate and compromise.

Z

splice-protection tube selection

It is critical that heat-shrinking protection tubes are fully shrunk, eliminating any chances of leaving air bubbles or the like trapped within. The preferred outside diameter and length depend on the application – whether the splice will be contained in an outside-plant closure, a splitter-device tray, a compact component or some other subsystem.

AFL SPLICECONNECT UNIVERSAL MECHANICAL SPLICE TOOL KIT

AFL Telecommunications’ SpliceConnect is a mechanical splice that provides an inexpensive, quick alternative to mating fibers. Using V-groove technology, this splice maintains physical contact between the fibers. An assembly tool is used to ensure the fibers are mated correctly, resulting in <0.1dB insertion loss (typical for single-mode). The SpliceConnect secures both fiber and coating independently with the U-shaped sleeve, enhancing the strength against fiber twist.
