3M™ 291X Aluminum Oxide Lapping Film is recommended when diamond film is not needed, like in many fiber optic multimode applications. Some aluminum oxides can even be used as the final polish. The 0.5µm and 0.3µm will produce return losses of -50 dB or better, but because they cut the glass at a much quicker rate than the ceramic, undercut may occur.
The 5" disc is used for applications in MT style, multi-fiber optic connector optic connector polishing and wafer edge cleaning.
