3M™ 261X Aluminum Oxide Lapping Film produces an excellent surface finish and with efficient polishing, can help reduce overall process time. It's recommended when diamond lapping film is not needed, like in many fiber optic multimode applications. Some aluminum oxides can even be used as the final polish. The 0.5µm and 0.3µm will produce return losses of -50 dB or better, but because they cut the glass at a much quicker rate than the ceramic, undercut may occur.
The 8.5" x 11" sheet is used for applications in fiber optic connector polishing, flat lapping, superfinishing and media head finishing.
