Optoplast SMA fiber optic connectors are the longest-standing optical connector standard and feature a threaded plug-and-socket design. The SMA connector is not torsion-proof, so the fibers of two connectors cannot make direct physical contact without risking damage. Instead, the ferrules establish contact while keeping the fiber end surfaces separated. While primarily designed for multimode fibers, the SMA connector can also support single-mode fibers. Its robust design makes it ideal for use in medical and military applications.
