The VFL-300 Rugged Visual Fault Locator. Today I’ll be showing you the features of this product and how to use it. The VFL-300 improves upon our VFL-150, by having a much more rugged aluminum housing this protective sleeve to prevent accidental button presses and it uses AA batteries for longer life. Including the VFL tester VFL-300 also includes this nice leather pouch to 2 AA batteries and an LC adapter. To use the VFL-300, 1st. Press the ON/OFF switch on the bottom of the unit to turn it on. Next, press the mode button to turn the laser source on. The first mode is continuous wave mode, which leaves the laser on at all times.

The second button press changes at the pulse mode which rapidly cycles the laser. The third mode is a slower pulse mode, which also continuously cycles the laser. When you want to use this on a fiber optic cable, first unscrew the dust cover like so. And if you’re using an FC, SC or ST connector, you can connect it directly to the VFL.

Next, turn on the mode to continuous wave or whatever mode you feel. You’ll notice that you can detect the faults in the fiber optic cable fairly easily. If you’re using an LC connector, you’ll have to use our VFL 25 125 which you can do by removing both protective covers inserting it into the top of the unit like so and then connecting the LC connector into the adapter. If you are testing a very long fiber optic cable and you want to prevent any accidental button presses, you can simply slide the protective sleeve over and leave the VFL down while you inspect the fiber optic cable.
