Training: How to Test a Simplex Cable Assembly

Fiber Optic Center training series - this video shows a simple overview of how to test a simplex cable assembly.

Steps in video:

  1. Connect the master test jumper to the detector
  2. Reference the power out to get a zero reference.
  3. The 2 wavelengths selected are 1300-1550, which are typical for Singlemode testing.
  4. Clean and inspect the MTJ and DOT end faces.
  5. Use a mating adapter to connect the MTJ to the DOT.
  6. Connect the far end of the DOT to the detector.
  7. Press the start button.
  8. Within seconds the software calculates the insertion loss and return loss results for each wavelength.
  9. To test the other side of the DOT, flip the jumper and repeat the measurement on the other connector.
