MS-426 Mid-span Ring and Slit tool. Today, I’ll show you the features of this tool and how to use it. The MS-426 is specifically designed to slit in Ring Prysmian Optical Mini FlexTube cables. It is for precision ring and slitting grooves that allow you to handle cables 5.8 to 12 millimeters in diameter. Each blade can be used up to 5000 times and replaceable blades can be purchased separately. Now I will show you how to slit a Prysmian Optical fiber cable. In this demonstration, we’ll be using a 10-millimeter diameter Prysmian Optical cable. First, open the slitting side the tool and insert the cable into the 9.8 to 10.4-millimeter groove. Next, clamp the tool shut. You can use the lock as a lever to gain even more leverage. Once it’s close tightly, pull the tool towards you in order to slip the cable. When you’re done, simply unlock the tool, open it and remove the cable. For ringing, open the ring side of the tool and insert the cable into the 9.8 to 10.4-millimeter ringing groove. Next, clamp it until its shut. Turn the unit two to three times. You can hear the strength members breaking and you’ll know it’s time to release the tool. Using a combination of ringing and slitting will allow you to have mid-span access to your fiber optic cables.
