AST-118, jacketed and armor jacketed cables, slit and ring tools, these tools are perfect for slitting cables with denser thick jackets, as well as cables with copper aluminum or steel armor. AST-118 works on cables from 8 to 28.6 millimeters in diameter to use AST tool. First, you need to set the blade depth.
This is done with the black neural nom fully tightened. Next, hold the tool over to cable in and using flat blade screwdriver, adjust the blade depth screw located on the bottom of the black neural knob. Know the blade depth should be such that the blade does not come in contact with any fiber. Once the blade depth is set, retract the blade by loosening the black knurled knob. Now locate where the slit or bring operation is to be performed on the cable and place the cable into the tool.
In this demonstration, I will perform a slit operation. Loosen the blue knob holding the guide wheel and lower the guide wheel onto the cable. Hold the guide wheel tightly on the cable and tighten the blue knob. Move the lever to the slit position and then fully tighten the black knurled knob to have the blade penetrate the cable. Pull the tool down the cable to slit the cable.
To perform a ring or radial cut, retract the blade by loosening the black neural knob. Move the lever side the blade is now perpendicular to the V groove in the tool. Tighten the black knurled knob and rotate the tool around the cable. Remove the tool from cable
