MMC Connector Assembly using the new TMT Ferrule specific fixturing and tooling

Next generation architectures are driving the need for optical connectivity solutions requiring greater fiber density than can be achieved even by the popular MPO format. US Conec’s MMC connector enables solutions that minimize the space required across multiple applications, including structured cabling, high fiber count data center interconnects, transceivers and on-board optics.

The MMC Connector uses the new TMT Ferrule to offer high density and low insertion loss connectivity by combining a new, reduced size, MT-style ferrule (TMT) with a "very small form factor" connector body about half the size of the traditional MPO. The TMT ferrule format is compliant with the IEC 61755 and 61754 precision alignment structure for MT and MT-16 Ferrules, and thus is intermateable with existing MPO connector formats.

Assembly of the MMC Connector is very similar to the assembly of MPO connectors. However, since the TMT ferrule has different dimensions, much of the standard production equipment will require TMT-specific fixturing and tooling in order to assemble.

Fiber Optic Center is the industry connection to the recommended TMT materials and equipment designed specifically for TMT assemblies. Integrating our manufacturing knowledge into our customers’ worldwide operations begins with the best practices and selections listed here:
