There must be something about FOC customer service hiring and the summer months. We are celebrating Naomi’s August anniversary and this week while we roll out the exciting new “Get to know Michael Thorpe Better!” blog, we find out that he has celebrated his five year anniversary this July. Happy Anniversary Mike!
One of our jobs in customer service is working with various manufacturers/suppliers and in Mike’s case, he was one of those very people we worked with.I remember working with Mike while he was at Optical Cable Corporation in Roanoke, VA and being very impressed with his responsiveness and professionalism. Many times your level of service is completely dependent on others and there are those people that you know you can count on and there are those that, well, not so much…
After 3 years at OCC, Mike and his now wife Bianca, decided they wanted to move closer to home after Bianca finished medical school. After hearing this, we quickly offered Mike a job and he has been with us ever since bringing that enthusiasm and drive. Mike gives our customer’s 100% support just like he did for us when he was at OCC. THIS is the face we want our customers to think of when they think of FOC. NOT the other, “not so much…” face that we have to deal with from time to time.
In five short years, Mike has seen a great difference in his days from always being ”online” now to the amount of information being pushed directly to mobile phones. His perspective includes the excitement of job security with every day new devices being developed connecting to the internet and driving the demand for Fiber Optics. When I want to know what is going on in the high-tech consumer market, he is the one I go to.
Mike enjoys building his own computers and has recently upgraded his new house in Bristol, RI with a home automation system that allows him to control his lights, garage doors, thermostat, etc. by program or by cell phone. It even lets him keep an eye on his little Yorkshire Terrier, Oliver, while he is away so he doesn’t get into too much mischief.
During the work day Mike’s thoughts are typically centered around “Ship it”, “Did I forget to ship it?”, or “Did I ship it by the right method?”… basic occupational hazards. His favorite part of an FOC day is after all orders have been picked up and he can work on the tasks that have been on hold while getting those orders out the door.
After the work day, Mike does not focus on fiber optic orders and shipping but instead enjoys keeping fit and playing some basketball. His favorite season is not spring or summer, it is FOOTBALL SEASON! Please be aware of this interesting fact when you are working with Mike during those months because, as everyone knows, New Englanders are serious about their football.
Congratulations to Mike on his five year anniversary and to FOC for having Mike on their team!
