Flock Pile Lapping Film
Polish irregular glass fibers to a mirror finish with Flock Pile Lapping Film. Used in the ÅngströmBrush® Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) system, these films etch away thermoset or thermoplastic material from MT ferrules to create a controlled fiber protusion while polishing the glass fibers to a smooth finish. The pads feature 0.3-0.5 mm flexible nylon fibers coated with aluminum oxide, cerium oxide, silicon carbide or silicon dioxide. These fibers conform to irregular ferrule surfaces, preventing damage from sharp protrusions while controlling fiber protrusion and achieving precise coplanarity across all fibers. This combination of etching and polishing ensures consistent optical performance and reliable fiber optic connector matings.
Fiber Optic Center offers both ÅngströmBrush® and 3M™ flock pile lapping films, listed below for easy comparison based on technical specifications to help you choose the right film for your polishing equipment and application.
