MPO Connector Assembly

building MPO connectors requires
specific fixturing and tooling

high-density network cabling systems like data centers, supporting 40G and 100G parallel fiber connectivity, require multi-fiber connectors, like MPO (similar to MTP®), using MT ferrule.

VIEW fixturing and tooling list

MPO connectors work with single mode and multimode cables with a push and pull latch system to lock them into place. They must be used with the right configuration of cables to avoid any problems with signal transmission. Misconfigured cabling causes issues with polarity (signal routing). They are branded to have use for high-performance networks and are commonly used in data centers, high-performance computing, and other high-bandwidth applications.

Assembly of the MPO Connector is very similar to the assembly of MTP®connectors. Since they use the same MT ferrule, much of the standard production equipment will require the same MT-specific fixturing and tooling to assemble. This tooling is significantly different from single fiber connectors. Keep in mind that APC (angled) versions will require different fixturing from UPC (flat) ones.

Fiber Optic Center is the industry connection to the recommended materials and equipment designed specifically for MPO connector assemblies. Integrating our manufacturing knowledge into our customers’ worldwide operations begins with the best practices and selections listed below on this page.
