MTP Connector Assembly

building MTP® connectors requires
specific fixturing and tooling

Data center demands require the ability to bundle multiple fibers onto a single connector for both space and installation time savings. Today’s networks achieve this with the MTP® format.

VIEW fixturing and tooling list

Multi-Position Connectors save space compared to alternatives by terminating row(s) of ribbonized fiber in one ferrule. These connectors offer advantages in crowded data center racks but have unique challenges to the termination like ribbonizing fibers and polishing relatively large fiber protrusion. Specific best practices must be followed when terminating MPO/MTP® connectors.

Assembly of the MTP®Connector is very similar to the assembly of MPO connectors, since MTP® are based on the MPO standard. Tooling for MTP and MPO connectors are similar, but require different equipment and consumables compared to single fiber connectors. Keep in mind that APC (angled) versions require different fixtures and adapters from UPC (flat) ones.

Fiber Optic Center is the industry connection to the recommended materials and equipment designed specifically for MTP®connector assemblies. Integrating our manufacturing knowledge into our customers’ worldwide operations begins with the best practices and selections listed below on this page.
